Introducing Friends of the Busia County Library–Kampala Committee!
Maria’s Libraries is pleased to announce that a group of Ugandans, called Friends of the Busia County Library–Kampala Committee, led by golfing champion Cecilia Wanga, has pledged to raise $60,000 as the contribution by their country to the construction of a modern library in Busia, Kenya. This important cross-border project will directly impact nearly 50,000 Ugandans who live in Busia, and who will be near enough to walk or take short transport to the new library once it is built. Much of the pledge will be raised at a golf tournament at the Uganda Golf Club, where Ms. Lwanga is a board member. The pledged $60,000 represents a contribution of 10% of the funds required to complete the project, and will be considered part of the 30% contribution that is required to be raised for the project locally.
